Kensington Market and Augusta
Toronto (September 2004)

"Everything you can fit in a bag, for $10 only" - says one sign written legibly in red and black ink on a torn corrugated card board.

We were out to get something from this colorful place which mixes good quality used designer clothes, military surplus with Salvation Army goodies being sold along driveways of creatively-painted houses. Where else in this side of town can you get them side by side fruits being sold with signs in chinese letters and prices which surely are lower than Loblaws, Longos and Price Chopper. Add your usual things at $ 1 dollar a piece. Where else, but from Kensington Market.

I can only imagine what it looks like on a Saturday afternoon when every bohemian in town visits and gets their supplies from this place.

We ended up with pictures on our first visit to Kensington. Surely our next visit will be more productive.

Also Last Tuesday:
o my mama's birthday and we were able to use a phone card (14 minutes for $ 5) to call and another 1-hour on the webcam at home to greet her
o walked along Spadina, visited Art Gallery of Ontario and opened another account in Citibank along Front St.

Yesterday, Wednesday:
o opened a library card - our visa to magazines, DVDs, CDs and books for rent for 3 weeks!
o tried wiring money over the internet from across the world and found it very convenient; was afraid when I hit the "enter" button, but was glad to see the money come in without any hitches

Today, Thursday:
o we applied for the apartment, submitting our application form and a last month's rent's check - the ball's on their court
o updated resume and submitted it on-line again in workopolis and monster.ca

It's weekend again. Time flies so fast, we've fairly done a lot to do our settling down, Social Insurance Number, bank, credit portfolio, driving license, apartment, all in 12 days!

Work na lang kulang....
