Let Freedom Reign
(New York, July 2005)
I don't laud the US and its claim as the land of the free and the brave or as a great country who celebrates its Independence Day not by the show of force, marching its soldiers, tanks and artillery, but with picnics, barbecues and family days. I don't give credence to the US whose people have been models of rest of the rest of the world in entertainment, sports and politics, whose goings-on billions follow avidly. I don't love the US and everything that it stands for, that it ranks among the top in places to find milk and honey and yes, opportunities and money. But today as the world continues to watch with bated breath, the day of reckoning is not July 4 - I will be proud of the US if it makes a stand to make July 6 the independence day - from poverty - for many countries.
Please President Bush, let's make the US and the people of the world be proud of the country you represent and be one with all of us as we try to end poverty now.
One by one, let's end extreme poverty now, not from donating money, but by just letting your voice count.
I missed Live8 at Barrie, here in Toronto. All I can do to help is to blog and ask friends to join its cause. Watch the ONE video here.
It took 6 seconds for this page to load up. Within that time, 2 deaths have happened.
Yes. every ticking of the clock and clicking of their fingers, mean one death from this earth. Again, let's do our share. Make poverty history.
NYC pics coming up soon. :)
