Feet Around the World
Tyler McNiven, Amazing Race 9 Co-Winner
I love walking. In fact when I was a kid I walked from my first cousins' house in Moonwalk Las Pinas to where I grew up in a small subdivision near the munisipyo. I checked the odometer once to see how long I walked. The distance was less than 7 kilometers, not bad for a 12 year old. I also remember walking from school to the gates of Ayala Alabang Village, a good 3 or 4 kilometers. But that was then, and that was the 80s when Manila was safe, and I used to call myself Junnie Walker (pun intended).
So when we walked for 15 minutes last weekend in Tobermory and another 30 minutes last Monday (Mitzi and I love doing this, remember last fall?), I recalled my walking days, and how I missed it.
Amazing Race 9 winner Tyler McNiven is not just famous for winning the last race around the world with buddy BJ but also for his long 145 day-walk in 2004 when he walked from the southernmost point to the northernmost tip of Japan.
Watch "Kintaro Walks Japan" here. (1 hr. and 6 minutes only)
It's less hilarious than Keys Me (link from 1,001 friends, including star and paz, am sure you've seen it already unless you were hiding in a cave), the funniest video in the last 4 days around Philippine internet circles.
Do you know your history?
Sometimes, Wikipedia is wrong. Was the the Bataan Death March 65 miles or 160 kilometers as what Wikipedia reported?
ARE FILIPINO ACTORS JINX TO ANY HOLLYWOOD FILM?
Some of the scenes in the death march were reported to have been captured cinematically in scenes in the film, "The Great Raid" starring Benjamin Bratt (Traffic, Miss Congeniality) and James Franco (Spiderman 2). Unfortunately, for its 70-million budget, its wide distribution didn't see much support in the theatres.
It also stars Cesar Montano, by the way. Is that why it bombed in the theatres? (Catch it on DVD.)
I'm walking now to the nearest Blockbuster to rent it.
