"To you the next best thing to playin' and winning' is playin' and losing."--Alison Krauss and the Union Station, "The Lucky One"

Competitive. Call me that, add Perfectionist too and throw in intense into the fray. Oh, don't forget that I always wanted to be the first, the best, a great competitor at all costs. I was all of that, and more. In the movie, "The Fan", Wesley Snipes said, he just "stopped caring". At this stage, in this age, are we getting close to that? or did we just move on to pursue more important goals than just always competing and winning?

Here's my 5-minute poetry for this peaceful weekend. I wrote this in the patio overlooking the two statues in this LA hotel I'm billeted today. This is dedicated to those whose dreams have been achieved - in a different manner, in a different way...

An Ode to Stepping Aside

It may be age that slows us down,
giving chance and allowing others to pass us by
See the glint in their eyes as they take a win
you know that you were part of it,
let them take the adulation,
while you stand aside and
clap with the rest of them.

It may be age that slows us down,
or maybe just wisdom allowing others to take credit
of an idea we taught them,
they take the bows and receive the high fives
you had your turn, this time its theirs
while you join the group who know better
who stand aside, and
clap with the best of them
