School's Cool Click anywhere on the Pic to view more Boracay Island pics Schoolday on a Holiday Boracay Island, Philippines, June 2004 I was quite amazed by the number of schoolkids who abandoned their uniforms for an hour or two take a dip after what I guess was Saturday half-day class. They were cute in their plaid uniforms and sea-damaged white blouses. Their laughter resonating from where I was seated and their cute abandon of the people around them proved their innocence. In an hour or two, the same kids, already familiar for the number of times they've walked in front of our beachfront, will be selling shells, or probably helping their mothers ply the fruits they've picked from their own backyards. Although some have made the line "sir, donation, sir" as their all too-familiar English greeting, it still makes me hopeful of the fact that they know how to care for their island and to preserve its beauty. Walking back to our room, I was thinking, how good these kids' lives are, how innocent they are from the ills of the city and I hope they'd remain that way. Click Pic to Continue Day 3 |
