The Family The Family Submitted to Theme Thursday: Indispensable Subic, Zambales, May 2004 love within the light of which all else is seen, the love within which all other love finds speech. This love is silent. - T. S. Eliot Whenever our family is in one room, always expect the unexpected. That room will never be silent. Everyone will have something to say, rather shout about. Well, except for Papa, who we joke to be silent when awake, but noisy when he's sleeping. Last Saturday was the first time in 5 months that we were complete in a room. It was exhilarating, albeit frightening for our parents, the thought that in a couple of hours, all 3 siblings will be married and would have their own families. My elder sister tied the knot 12 years ago, I did in 1996 and our youngest, that night. We would have our own lives to live, our own pursuits, joys, laughters, triumphs and of course their opposites. Our eldest decided to build her family down south in Cebu, My wife and I will be posted in Toronto by September, and our youngest will have her condolife starting soon. Despite the distance, despite the inconveniences of travelling to and fro for reunions, we look forward to being in the same room again, complete. Soon. In our lives, only the knot made by the family can never be untied. Our lives maybe lived from disparate places, but the love will always be indispensable. |
