Loooong Weekend Toronto to Cape Cod It is even a trivial place. The waves forever rolling to the land are too far-travelled and untamable to be familiar. Creeping along the endless beach amid the sun-squall and the foam, it occurs to us that we, too, are the product of sea-slime." - Henry David Thoreau "Cape Cod" The Escape to Cape Cod was exhilirating and at most times eye-popping as one sees a lot of things up close for the first time. In the next couple of days and next couple of pictures, trying to recapture the experience, with emphasis on "try", will prove this. But before that, let the thumbnails be a great peek to our weekend escape to the cape (plus more!) ******** Pride in Provincetown, my live photoblog submitted direct from Cape Cod can now be seen in the latest issue of Pinoyexpats.org. The month's theme is GLBT. If you want to know what those letters mean, hop on there and promise to come back here. ******** One trend ends, the other continues. The dream ends for the Germans, who, prior to today's game, were unbeaten in Dortmund. After 2 late goals by Italy in extended time, they are back in the Finals! They now continue on their trend of being in the World Cup finals (since I was born) - of intervals of 12 Years - 2006, 1994, 1982, 1970! What a great game to end my great weekend! ******** Here are the World Cup champions for the last 36 years. 1970 Brazil 4-1 Italy (host :Mexico) 1974 Germany 2-1 Netherlands (host: Germany) 1978 Argentina 3-1 Netherlands (host: Argentina) 1982 Italy 3-1 Germany (host : Spain) 1986 Argentina 3-2 Germany (host: Mexico) 1990 Germany 1-0 Argentina (host: Italy) 1994 Brazil 3-2 Italy (host: USA) 1998 France 3-0 Brazil (host: France) 2002 Brazil 2-0 Germany (hosts: Korea/Japan) See if you can see another trend aside from the fact that 8 out of the last 18 champions were the host themselves (Sad to say, Germany didnt become the 9th). Fearless Forecast: France over Portugal, then Italy over France. I'll be opening a Chianti to celebrate. << |
