Holding On (Part 2)

"Finish the story." That was what's written on the paper as handed to me by my seatmate. I opened the flap and saw one line, "It was a sunny Saturday morning, as I".

It was unfinished.

I looked at my 13-year old friend and made a quizical second look at the paper, and then abrubptly answering myself, "ahhhhh..." The instructions were plain and simple, she writes one line, she passes it to me, as I read just one line and add to it, and then passes it back to her or to anyone else, and they add another line, only this time, they only read the line previous to it.

After several lines, with varying pen colors, and different handstrokes, a total of 6 other classmates have jumped in, we were able to finish a story. After reading it, it occured to us that the story didnt make sense, we only knew of the last line, and 6 lines before that and the lines that we added.

The story was ~~not~~ complete, in a different kind of way. Someone changed what was a sunny Saturday afternoon to a gag-ful of trippy adventures. Someone was writing about toilets, and dog poop and everything that was so Tito-Vic-and Joey, if you know what I mean. What was supposed to be a wholesome ending, turned into its complete opposite. It was hilarious. We were laughing how one storyline was disconnected to the whole story. It was a total mess, as someone exclaimed. But everyone was glad they contributed something to the story.

After reading our magnum opus, we all decided to do it again the next day. But this time we agreed from the start that we'd be wholesome all the way...that we should be writing about happy moments, of candies and chocolates, of sunshines and rainbows, and the ending with a sweet kiss on the cheeks....

We never got to do it again. We were happy with our first venture. We were happy we tried doing it and enjoyed the fun of not having set rules nor having to undo what doesnt need to be undone.

Life was o so simple then.
