I don't have enough of both. I don't have enough time to read and the space for books that are piling waiting to be opened. But last night, I tried opening a book. "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close", a book by Jonathan Safran Foer, the author of "Everything is Illuminated". It's a fantastic book without much pretension to be considered as an Oprah's Choice for Book of the month or to make it like his first novel - into a movie. It's straightforward story telling, sometimes carrying you from page to page with you not knowing it's already 2am. Quirky like "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time" which I finished in one seating, or rather in one standing :), "Extremely Loud" has several activities for the reader in between pages for one to continue being fascinated at the same time relate to the characters of the novel. Yes, I was able to finish several pages and it was enough for me to get my appetite back to reading. Yes, if you love something, it takes only a small amount of prodding to be in love again. In the first place, the passion was never gone. Mitzi is finishing the same book in a couple of days, if she's not careful, I might finish it ahead of her :) One book down, more books to finish. The problem is, "Extremely Loud" is not even on my own book shelf and on my reading list. Oh well. << |
