Today the battle of AIDS is turning 25.

It's not coincidental that the famous landmarks in great cities such as Seattle and Toronto have needle-like structures. It is providential. Today starts the AIDS Conference in Toronto and not only should the conference remind us of the importance of AIDS education, but moreso of being able to pressure our governments to make their commitments turn to actions, their rhetorics into actual results.

20,000 are now in Toronto to discuss AIDS and find ways to hasten the cure to this pandemic. Toronto Star reports that 55,000 people with the AIDS virus would have died during the same span of time.

The numbers are staggering. "By the end of 2005, 40.3 million people were living with HIV/AIDS, including 17.5 million women and 2.3 million children under the age of 15." (Read more)

It is the fastest growing cause of death."In 2005 alone, a total of 3.1 million people died of HIV/AIDS-related causes."

It is Time to Deliver.

The goal is the same, let's do everything to stop this deadly disease. Let's not change the meaning of AIDS into "As If we are Doing Something". It really is time to deliver.

Where's Canada PM Stephen Harper in all these? He missed and will continue to be out of the conference, as he is busy fighting the sovereignity of Canada's arctic waters. More important indeed :(
