"Golf is a game in which you yell "fore"... shoot six... and write down five."

Fore! That's what I was asked to shout to inform my co-flight members that I'm ready to hit my ball. Apparently that's also a prediction of how many strokes I'll have to take to bring this tiny bedimpled ball into the hole. After the 18-hole, 65 minute game, I placed 5th. Not bad right? But I was playing with a 9-yr old, a 6-yr old and 2 women. And there were just 5 of us. I literally played and enjoyed my game, never taking it seriously. I guess I took to heart what we all need to know about life, that it's never really about the winning, its enjoying the game.

(Is this what they call "sweet lemons"?)

Did you know that there are 3 golf balls left in the moon? Yup. Alan Shephard wanted to do a simple demonstration that youngsters would understand, to show what it meant to be in an atmosphere with one-sixth the gravity of Earth.

He naively figured that he was going to be able to drive the golf ball six times the normal distance of an Earth game.

But his first shot bit right into the dirt in front of him. A second swing got him a slice shot of two or three feet. Shephard dropped a second ball, and maneuvering in the bulky space suit, hit a shot that he enthusiastically reported as having sailed "miles and miles". He later admitted that it was really about 200-400 yards. But just in case anyone else wants a shot, he left the balls behind on the moon.

Why do golf balls have from 300-500 dimples?

I know its a religion to a lot of people, but pardon my heresy, but if there's one sport that I may not really enjoy watching - it is GOLF. Ok, I hate watching CHESS too :P Both games are darn too slow. Don't you agree?

*********

Mitzi won, by the way, having had 7 birdies, while I had just 1. Of course, birdies in golf mean a different thing (you dirty mind)

so you know, here are some golf scoring terms

Albatross (double-eagle): Three shots less than par
Eagle: Two shots less
Birdie: One shot less
Bogey: One shot more
Double bogey: Two shots more
Triple bogey: Three shots more

There's also a Condor (triple-eagle) too - four shots less than a par 5, or a hole in one. Having had 2 holes-in-one in an 18-hole stretch is said to be with odds of 1 out of 67 million. Chris Tudwell was one of the last to do it.

Yesterday, Patrick, Jo's son, made a hole-in-one. He almost made two, just like his Tita Mitzi who won the game yesterday, they were both 'naturals.' Their tito Junnie is happy just to see them all happy.

I'm a natural - in sharing happiness :)
