Sarah McLachlan Live Concert
Air Canada, Toronto, Ontario (May 2005)

"I can die now, I've seen Sarah McLachlan" - one post in a forum

One of the after thoughts I got in early 2004, when we got our approved immigration status to Canada was, "wow, I'll be able to see Sarah McLachlan!". I was wearing out my copy of "Mirrorball" and was longing for a new album from the only Canadian singer I know outside of Celine Dion and Joni Mitchell. (and Michael Buble and Bryan Adams, pala)

May 17, I was among the 25% (I guess) of the 12,000 strong audience in Air Canada, a minority among 20+ female audience. "Did you finish your homework?" "Heck yeah, did it in the subway coming here.", said one girl who even without make up, looked like she sprung out of the pages of Seventeen.

What was I doing in a place full of beautiful ladies? We all have something in common, 'simply loved Sarah's music.

Thanks to Ebay for the below face value tickets, Mitzi and I sat close to the stage albeit in cheap good seats to the left of the stage. We were able to secure a better seat when we moved to the other side (see first pic) when we thought the show ended and walked past a door to hear that Sarah enjoyed the crowd so much she nonchalantly went back for one more song, without her band, just she and her piano.

******

Surprisingly we both enjoyed the curtain raiser, the Perishers, (Mitzi prodded the child-in-me to buy their CD, cheap at $10, and she knew too that I was itching to have it signed as well, but was just shy to line up). I got their sig! Woohoo. Just another CD signed and now part of my dozens of CDs signed by favorite famous and up and coming artists.

******

Sarah did a 120-minute gig. It was very intimate as she always had spiels before songs and addressed her drummer/lover as her Ice Cream Man. Although I don't have the complete playlist, she practically sang all of the songs from the latest studio CD, "Afterglow", and songs from the last 2 ones. Except for "Possession", there were no other songs prior to 1995. It was close to her 2004 released live CD, "Afterglow Live", but the experience of breathing the same air as Sarah made it a worthwhile experience.

*****

You can count in both hands the concerts we've seen (off hand, there's Toto (2001), Sting (1992), Phil Collins (1993), Kenny Loggins (1994), Workshy (1995), Spandau Ballet (2002), last night's experience tops 'em all, in a different kind of way.

Unlike the quote I read from a discussion board several years ago, I don't want to die now, I want to live and enjoy more live music!
