That's a facade of a house doing its own "roadtrip" :) Roadtrip from Toronto to NYC (New York, July 2005) Day 1. This is another testament to our travelling ways. We were up and about by 5 am when normally we'd be snoring our way to a last showing of a morning dream til 6:45 for my wife and 7:30 am for me. Sometimes, those waking moments are interchanged on weekends, as I wake up earlier than my other half. Our lists, yes we do them, have been ticked off, ice, water, snacks, shades, extra car keys, water, rosary and all the other bags - one by one were checked out. • 6:20 am - we were out of the streets and on our way to New York! (insert MP3 of Liza Minelli's New York New York here, tat tat tadada tat tat tada, start spreading the news...tat tat tadada, we're leaving today....). • 7:40 am - we said hi to Niagara Falls and wanted to stop to take a snap of the rainbow I was chasing the first time we were there. Decided against it as we needed to move along. • 7:50 am - US border crossing. Back to the US after 24 hours in Canada, (i was in LA just 2 days ago) • 8:30 am - out of the border, guess what the 40 minutes were for? some docs to be stamped, $6 for it and yes, a picture of the border (see above), at least I got some memento of time spent between two countries.... • 8:30 to 12:30 pm - after 4 hours of straight highways from Buffalo to Rochester to Syracuse, running at 65 miles per hour (here we go again with the conversion, uhmmm, is that close to 100 kph), we decided to stop somewhere in Pennsylvania to grab some grub. We stopped an hour ago for bladder check and switched drivers for some much-needed leg rest. • 2:30 PM - we followed our 3-3-3 driving assignments, first and last 3 hours on me, while Mitzi drives the middle 3 as the Spanish in me needs some "siesta time", which I never really took as we need all the navigation we can get. • 4:10 PM - arrived in New Jersey, didn't have a hard time finding our relatives' home as we were provided with more detailed description than that of Mapquest. Home Sweet Home!!! Backyard barbeque and great conversations over a sumptuous meal was next and indeed was a great day ender. Plus, it's always great to see familiar faces and people we love to be with - after a long journey. Here's the Map. Total Distance: 500 miles/800 kms and 10 hours on the road, 8.5 hrs driving - Done << |
