Heroes Day

"Parents give their children roots and wings. Roots to know where home is, wings to fly away and exercise what's been taught them."

Today is the Philippines' National Heroes Day. No, its not a day reserved for our basketball idols, movie celebrities or Captain Barbell, rather its a day to honor people who have lived to die so that others may live.

We pay tribute to people like Andres Bonifacio, Ninoy Aquino or Dr. Jose Rizal who in the last 120 years were instrumental in making who we are now, free, proud and brave. I guess other than these fallen heroes I also have mine back home - my parents.

Thank you for sharing life's challenges. There are more to come and I know, we all know, we can bear and withstand them all - for in the past, we've withstood the worst and we've come out stronger than ever.

This December, Papa celebrates his 64th year and with Mama, their 39th year together. We also look back at 15 years after our first encounter with the Lord as a family. For all these momentous events, Happy anniversary, you two are my real heroes!

My heroes are not perfect though. I guess I can only be proud to say that my parents have only had one argument for the last 39 years. That one lasted for 37 years! :)
