Christmas Preparations (This is JO's Christmas Tree) Fasten Your Seatbelts, Flight Back Home First Thanksgiving Day in the US Blur! November 24-27, 2005 If we don't take a moment to pause, it will come to a point that our life is lived in fast forward. Thanksgiving holiday week is always marked with a lot of travelling. So it wasnt surprising that I arrived in LAX amidst a throng of a crowd to rival a rock concert. Business was off by Wednesday afternoon and people were in a frenzy preparing for the next day. I just got a bottle of Pinot Noir and a haircut. My first Thanksgiving in the US was made more meaningful as it was shared with family and friends who all helped in making 2005 a blessed year for us. I can fairly say that Thanksgiving is Christmas without Santa Claus and gift-giving! (I guess that's why people like it more) ******* Black Friday, is not Good Friday or Black Saturday combined. It is the day after Thanksgiving and if spent well, a day that will excite any true-blooded shopaholic. Prices were marked down as low as 70%. Stores open at 5 am. Lines start at midnight, and people just spend their day buying stuff that they might not even need. I skipped through all of Blah Friday for two reasons: my improved self-control and I was on my home to Toronto. No shopping, no 70% markdown can get in the way of me going home to love one's arms. ******* Canada maybe culturally diverse, and Christmas is one holiday that is affected by the diversity. The country has been too politically correct, or it tries to be one, that most of the decors become subdued, sparse and not as festive as what we accustomed to, growing up in the Philippines. Except for the Cavalcade of Lights (click here for COL 2004 pics) in Toronto's Nathan Philips Square, there are a few places to visit and feel Christmas, something that's just 26 days away from today. Christmas again will be felt in the hearts this year....o well. << |
