Dreaming of Spring Toronto, Ontario -Tom Clancy I thought Spring has started???. Someone please invent a more accurate weather and season forecaster, please. ****** I've been watching "The American Inventor" for the past 2 weeks. The show, produced by Simon Cowell has made me realize how people really can make changes and possibly improve the lives of other people. At the same time, I realized that man shouldn't stop from being resourceful, creative, ingenious and at the same time be courageous to show the world their creation. Just imagine if the next great invention was just hidden under a rock. ******* They say that you dont have to reinvent the wheel, since it was invented since 3500 BC. But the same company, founded by the brothers which first used air-filled wheels, Michelin, are launching the first non-air filled wheels, called Tweels.. "The Tweel offers a number of benefits beyond the obvious attraction of being impervious to nails in the road. The tread will last two to three times as long as today's radial tires, and when it does wear thin it can be retreaded." And they're not full of air when they say that. ******* I have invented, or thought of invented some things when I was younger: - In 1977, I thought I invented the game of "Trump Cards" - since I had my own Basketball cards with an NBA Star's Height, Weight, Shirt Number and Stats typewritten with a neatly cut picture from a magazine pasted on an individual cardboard. Apparently, I only had one good set and I played with it by myself for years. Talk about inventions as a result of boredom. :) - In 1982, I had a basketball jersey's seams sewn to close it at the bottom and resemble today's grocery bags. I used it once and then again after several years when I found it again in my cabinet. Apparently the fashion was out of its league both times and didnt create much points. No pun intended. - I also tried to invent or claimed to invent the braille kodigo, one where your notes were copied over blank pages utilizing my inate ability to write heavily marking at least 3 pages. There were games using a Scientific calculator (didnt you know, you can find at least a dozen New Wave bands from its keys?), and a way to pick a lock using an Orion ruler or something. I also invented a 1,001 reasons why I was late in sleeping at night. Most of them, not because I was out, but maybe because I was playing with my NBA cards or trying to find a way to pass the next day's test using my braille kodigos. These days, I marvel at the ways invented things came to be - at the same time, I still couldn't believe a basketball jersey sewn at its seams wouldnt catch on a fashion revolution. Jeesh. << |
