World Cup 2006? For the next 4 weeks, there'll be 32 flags flying around Canadian homes, pubs, restos and cars. Yes from Dundas West's Portugal village to Mississauga and its many Pakistan residents, to Poland, Italy, Switzerland and Germany, to Ukraine , Japan and Korea, all of their colors will be seen flying side by side the Maple Leaf. Why? It's World Cup season- and it started today. Toronto, known to have had the most number of nations represented in one city will be partisan for 1 month. It's not a good time to be beside a Polish, if you happen to be an Ecuadorian, as they beat them 2-0 today and practically sent them home packing knowing that the next game is against the vaunted hosts, Germany. True colors really will come out, at least for 4 weeks. Any Toronto office will be colorful while staff meetings will never be dull. Of course you'd say that all or most have worked their way to becoming Canadians, no one can deny the fact that our bloodlines, descendants and some of our family members are still rooted back home. Indeed, loyalty to one's home country is tested every 4 years! (Follow the World Cup in the World Cup blog) ********** Goal! Goal! Pityful is what we can to the quote from the movie"Dodgeball" (see above) - but somehow some of us have stopped making resolutions nor heeding our promises to ourselves. Goals have remained to be offshoots of Pinoy's favorite line "bahala na". Whatever comes, whatever goes. Whereever the wind takes us. Do you still have goals in life you want to accomplish? ********* Here's some from my 43 Things: 3. write a song 4. minimize my material possessions 14. Make that dream beachfront house in the Philippines a reality 16. see a whale 24. start painting again while here's what I ticked off my list in the last 4 years. : ) ********* I was able to be away from the laptop and with my cellphone turned off for several weekends and this weekend is no different. Woohoo, travelling again. Bye silver Mac, sorry 'Kia, its Trixy, Mitzi with Jo's family to Tobermory this weekend. << |
