Elena Juatco - Final 6, Canadian Idol Mabuhay Philippines 2006 Toronto Summer Festival It's Wednesday night. For some people, its never a good night. For American or Canadian Idol finalists, it only means one thing - judgment day. For the fanatics, its goodbye to their "idols" or woohoo, if they stay. For us, mere fence-sitters, who'd like to hear a swan song, see a failed contestant become teary-eyed after a 30-second tribute video, recorded when they were still much alive, it's just entertainment. So when have our lives changed that we can influence the lives of this idol hopefuls, vote them out or place them on a pedastal? I remember kid's parties when the host or what we in the Philippines call, the emcee, would line up the kids who either danced or sang, like ducks in a circus, or a firing squad and place his hand half a foot from their head and ask for applause as validation of your vote. Then as we grew older, not wiser, we rated girls from afar, a 10 for someone who we think would make our day, err, night. We've come far from influencing lives of others from clapping, to raising papers with handwritten numbers, texting to internet voting (where we Filipinos are so adept). Our vote is oftentimes important, sometimes its a stroke of luck too. It's Wednesday night, I wanted Brandon to stay during the 80s night (that's why I watched, remember? I'm an 80s junkie), but I didnt lift a finger to call or text, he got booted out, all those black nail polish and seemingly Jon Bon Jovi hair, all for naught. Oh well, that's life. On to "America's Got Talent" and "So You Think You Can Dance"... I'm ready to clap for whoever's mug is shown. Anyone willing to put his hand on top of the TV? ******* Some of the latest Filipino Idols that have gone up, both by votes and who have proven their talent by making the cut: - Melody Lacayanga- finished #2 on So You Think You Can Dance Season 1, "where she proved she could not just do jazz, but also hip hop, Jive and even Latin dancing. She was runner-up to Nick Lazzarini. They were best friends on the show, and still are. Melody began dancing at age 5 and at age 20, she moved from the Bay Area to Los Angeles to try to pursue a dance career." She, with Alan Frias and Ryan Conferido were all Filipino-blooded finalists. - Elena Juatco - Top 6 in Canadian Idol 2 "became "the "roving reporter" for the show beginning in Season Four. She originally was in group two of the season, winning third chair in her round with her vibrant version of "Midnight Train to Georgia". She was later invited back for an opportunity to perform on the Wildcard show. Her dramatic, and vocally impressive performance of "What I Did For Love" earned her a spot in the top ten. However, her best known performances would be "Mary Jane" and "Early Morning Rain". - Jasmine Trias - Top 3 in American Idol ,"her success came in spite of popular belief that only the states of California and New York logged in more votes than her home state of Hawaii. Of course we had Camille Velasco - Top 12 in American Idol 3 and Sway Penela - also a Top 12 finalist in American Idol, I don't remember. All info from Wikipedia, So you think I knew all those facts? ******* So whatever happened to William Hung? ******* I forgot to introduce Mento (short for Monumento, hahaha), the guy on right top of this blog. He is there to welcome you everytime you visit. Well one skill he has, he can follow your mouse. (No, not your house mouse.) I'm testing him for sometime and discovered this from Sitepal. Mento, turns quiet after your first visit, and will be with us only for a month. On a good day, I can look like him. :) << |
