Day 4: Malaga - Vamos A La Playa! Click Thumbnails to Appreciate Images
The road less travelled. That's where we tread when we decided to pay a visit to a city further south, that is Malaga. Not for the weak of heart (and those with vertigo), we traversed a road carved from the mountains with the view of the ravines inches away from your side windows. Our first stop was Salobrena. Near the Meditteranean Sea, this place is a sanctuary for tourists who want to hie away from the crowded beaches of Marbella and Nerja. The weather was uncooperative as the waters were choppy and the winds were so cold leaving a number of frustrated people needing a dip (that included us). We traversed the Costa Del Sol highway to reach a Pueblo Blanco (White Village) behind the hills of Nerja - Frigiliana. This small habitat has been awarded "the most beautiful village" of Andalucia. It was. Each white house's balcony is adorned with a riot of coloured ceramics or scarlet geraniums. Some have colored doors and panels, in periwinkle or salmon pink. Frigiliana also has maintained its charm with donkeys still plying the streets, alongside motorbikes and mopeds, the only motorized vehicles allowed in its steep and narrow streets. A place to get a good view of Costa del Sol, it's the perfect stop to take some ceramic souvenirs as well as Sherry or a bottle of dessert wine. Both of which without reluctance we took home as keepsakes. |
