Seasons of Love There are trees but where are the birds? We don't hear them chirp? We don't hear them tweet? Guess who is tweeting? Human beings are now the ones tweeting, err twitting. So this is my lame attempt to help those who haven't: Let's start with the "Basics of Twitting": Where to sign up: Twitter.com Terminology Schminologies: o Replies - your answer to users you don't necessarily follow but acknowledged by a @username of the person you are replying to Shortening URLs - long links? more than 160 characters, no problem, shorten it with these: o bit.ly - my favorite since you can track the number of clicks Searching Posts - there is no Google for tweets - well, none yet. Wait for wave.google.com o search.twitter.com - til wave, you can use these 3 Other things to know, such as influencers, breaking news or mobile apps like Tweetie, Twitterberry, maybe next post. In the meantime, I have to tweet this blog entry :) - and you there should give up Plurk and go back to Twitter :) ******* Microblogging Wannabees? Ok ok, to be fair to others, just like Plurk, there were those who battled it out with Twitter. Sadly, you can't join Pownce since its death last December 2008. If Twitter is a rock party, these are the ones you can join if you want to check out a eulogy... Microblogging sites such as: Jaiku, Identi.ca, Kwippy and Yammer. These competitors don't have it, most of which haven't grown exponentially compared to Twitter...guess why? P-Diddy is not there :) ******** Facebook Status Update is Enough for You, Think Again But if you love Facebook, and you only want to change your Facebook status and auto change your Twitter too...you can use, Facebook's Twitter app or Facebook Connect and a third party, such as TweetDeck, a desktop client for Mac users like me such as Twittie, or for browser-free twitting and Facebooking Seesmic Desktop. Or you can Nambu. Confused, where to start? Pick up the phone and call your mom. She's the only one who cares how you are, and what you are doing...promise. << |
