My Cebu Day in 2 Minutes Coming Home : Day 1 Toronto, Ontario I started travelling when I was 5 years old. But of course not alone as compared to what I'd be retelling later. That trip took almost 2 days on a boat to Surigao. After that "one glitch" on our traveling days, Mama didn't have the travel bug not until 2003 :), so all our traveling was limited to Lido Beach in Cavite and our annual sorties to Tagaytay. The operative word - was "driving distance". This then took care of plane or more boat trips to Visayas, or even a road trip to Baguio. Just so you know, Linnor (who took 95% of the shots above) hasn't even visited the former Summer Capital and yes, worse is that she has never even gone to Boracay. Of course, she can only blame Mama partly for that. So no trips will be complete with last minute packing, and a lot of bickering why our friends were heading to La Union or Cebu, while we're heading to Lido Beach or Vistamar again for the 3rd of 4th consecutive summer. But of course they prevailed. My first airplane ride was not until 1985. From then on, I've stopped counting the number of times I flew and the many times I've loved every minute of flying. But 4 airports, over 26 hours - seated in coach or economy is probably a record of sorts for me. I took off from Toronto at 8pm, Saturday, and arrived in Vancouver at 10 PM, same day. Left at 11:45 PM and arrived in Manila at 5am, Monday. I lost my Easter Sunday and was eating omelette instead of egg hunting. *********** Funny incident about my Toronto leg of the trip was being seated beside a 7-year old little lady who was flying on her own. She can easily pass for a Soleil Moonfrye of Punky Brewster of old TV or a young version of Britney, MMC-days. She kept on tugging my sleeves for various things: how to turn on the individual touch screen tv, opening her Sprite, asking me why she can't hear the movie (actually her headphones were placed the wrong way) and wanted me to escort her to the bathroom 4x. Ok, picture doing that with my dark hair and a pretty blonde lass going straight to the direction of the bathroom. The Children's Aid Society will surely enjoy the child perversion case against me. Of course I told her once where the bathroom is and asked the flight attendants for help. She showed me her projects and gifts to her mom and dad for Easter, wanted me to share her packed plane ride stash of peanuts, "Are you sure you're ok to eat peanuts?" she in her soft voice. She was laughing with a shrill of a young girl watching "Enchanted" on the plane's entertainment center. Finally on the last hour of the 5-hour flight, the effects of a red eye flight won over her. I finally got to have my sleep too. Our plane descended with her still asleep. She had instructions not to move until everyone has left and the attendants will be back to escort her to waiting arms of her parents. I moved on realizing how I did well as a dad to a blondie for 4 hours and escaped all the sleeve-tugging and a possible child case. Only if I were able to get her name. With her looks, she might be a superstar some day. Just like Britney. ************ My first 2 days were full of meetings. The video was just 2 hours of the 20 hours I was awake. I was even fortunate to have an hour with Mama and Paparazzi for breakfast while on layover in Manila. If life can always be like this - busy but fun. << |
