3:30 PM : Fall Colors As Far As Your Eyes Can See 3:45 PM: Our View Point 6:45 PM: Geneva, NY : Lake Seneca 10 AM The Next Day: Perfect Day! Fall Watching : End of Day 1 Kingston to Penn Yan, New York - Nathaniel Hawthorne So after staying on the road from Mississauga to Kingston via 401 for 3 hrs, plus apporximately an hour in and around Thousand Islands along the Alexandria Bay, we decided to cross the border a quarter before 4PM. Still Philippine-passport toting traveling duo, we needed to get an I-94 before we can head on to our destination to the Fingerlakes. We arrived at Geneva at 6:35 and was transported back to a continent so familiar to us both. The lake was so placid and glass like. We had to check in by 7pm so we ended the reminiscing early on and headed back to the road. It was a good ride, plenty of stories and sharing, replete with planning and prayers. Long drives like these are something we long for and look forward to. We ended the 600 KM drive at Wagener Estate in Penn Yan at 7:15 PM and was excited with the great Bed and Breakfast that we couldn't sleep early. Of course the walk in the quaint town wasn't going to be complete without a great taste of what the local's favorite bar or resto. We headed to Keuka Restaurant, ordered their most expensive non-steak dish, the Cajun style Seafood Mixed Grill, shared it and had a good wash down of their famous white wines from this great wine region down south of Lake Ontario. Our review shows: o Thousand Island View Point - 3 stars - great view after a 42-second elevator ride, with nothing much to do on top but to have the great view, $ 18 maybe too pricey for 2 people o Keuka Restaurant - 3.5 stars - seafoods are great but the one ordered by the wife was not memorable; not pricey, ambience is family type but with a tinge of bar-like atmosphere; great collection of wine from across the region and abroad o Keuka Reisling - 5 stars - we ought to get more from the winery itself, and that's for another day :) More of Day 1 here. << |
