Photo Friday: Work Where I Work The Orient Square, Emerald Avenue, Ortigas Emerald Avenue, where I work, is the Coffee Capital of the Philippines. If you want to debate on this point, let me invite you for a cup to 6 venues in 1 minute. Yes that's how many coffeeshops within meters of each other and how wired people working in Emerald are. There is Emerald Coffee and Starbucks as veteran "caffeine" dealers, there's Cafe Allegro, which replaced Struan and Tang's at the back of Wynsum along Emerald (entrance is at Ruby Road). Another caffeine dealer is Figaro - one of only 2 shops with indoor cancer rooms, and allow you to smell like an ashtray after a visit, and the new cups on the block, Mocha Blend and Seattle's Best. All within 200 meters of each other. Of course, we haven't counted Achie's in Orient Square and other canteens and kiosks that are situated inside buildings and condos. It's not yet GB3 or The Loop, but this busy strip in Ortigas is churning out the best nighspots as well, with 90 Proof and Tapas Tapas joining ole Chef and Brewer as the most passable jaunts outside malls. This used to be deadspot (literally, for held up taxi drivers in the 80s) is now a place full of life. (its a slow Tuesday and I've already ran out of witty lines to end this entry). ****** 6 in 4 years! That's how many awards ClickTheCity.com has in the bag from the Webbies. Even if no one takes the award-giving body seriously, the award still is a validation of how useful the site is to most of us. The same mission some guys had when the inspiration of putting up a website that can take one around the city online was being hatched from a coffee shop napkin more than 4 years ago. Just imagine how many ideas are being hatched in coffee shops along Emerald Avenue this very minute... |
