Toronto Streetcar Toronto, Ontario I want a ticket to anywhere Maybe we make a deal Maybe together we can get somewhere "- Tracy Chapman, "Fast Cars" By 2021, the Toronto TTC System will unveil a new streetcar system maybe made from Bombardier or from the Czech Republic (see pic), or maybe from Germany or Italy, 2 other countries bidding for the system. Want to see some sample of new Light Railway Vehicles (LRVs) around the world? which one you think is perfect for Toronto? Head on to see some of the LRVs in an open house from noon to 8pm in the following areas: June 25, 2007 - Finch Subway Station June 26, 2007 - Scarborough Centre RT Station June 27 2007 - The Albion Centre June 28, 2007 - Yonge-Dundas Square Torontonians can also help address the destiny of our passenger fleet by answering the survey on http://www.mynewstreetcar.ca *********** The TTC Red Rocket remains to be one of the few streetcars, maybe together with the San Francisco cable car, that really function as a passenger vehicle from since the late 19th century. Most of the other streetcars function mostly as touristic rides for nostalgia, called heritage streetcars. ************ So last weekend our plan to have mommy ride the Toronto landmark vehicle did not push through. We planned to go for an early breakfast at St. Lawrence Market, then ride the TTC Red Rocket around downtown. For a group of suburbanites, you need to plan these things well and the plan surely needs an early wake up time. Being a weekend, our bodies had different plans. The spirit was willing but the flesh was weak. as they say. Obviously, we overslept. So...there goes breakfast. Hello bed again. (We still have 14 more years til they change the Red Rocket anyways :) ******** Toronto Streetcar Images from 3 my Favorite Toronto Photobloggers o Sam Javanrouh - Empty Streetcar at Night o Rannie Turingan - Lensbaby Afterdark o Irina/Riri - King Streetcar << |
