Father's Day MOA, Enchanted Kingdom, Manila Ocean Park Yikes. Yesterday morning, I looked at myself in the mirror and discovered one thing - I'm beginning to overtake Papa in many ways - some of them I can't be proud of. Ok ok. One of them is beginning to look like our favorite Christmas "akyat bahay" character. If I don't shave, my beard and moustache will be all white and if I don't stop eating rice and stop exercising - by December, I won't be able to wear red and white anymore without kids running after me. ******** So Papa, got back his weight and waistline he lost when he underwent his quadruple bypass 6 years ago this week.. Thank God too that Papa has been never this healthy in years. He's back to eating Crispy Pata just a few hours ago. :) Despite this, rarely have I seen him doze off in front of the TV which I discovered happens to be somewhat hereditary as it has been my past time lately. :P ******** Here's something timely. The need for Fathers to be actively participating in their kid's lives. I remember Papa being present in one Spelling contest, which I eventually lost upon seeing him in the crowd. I requested him not to go in succeeding years, and the results were a lot better, winning it year after year. Thank you Pa, for being involved. John Wooden, the winningest basketball coach, once said that if you ask the people on the front lines, the biggest risk factor for children isn't gangs or drugs, it's the lack of an involved father figure. The day of the unveiling, Coach Wooden read a poem that was very meaningful to him. I thought it was perfect for today. Enjoy. A careful man I want to be; A little fellow follows me. I do not dare to go astray For fear he'll go the self same way. I cannot once escape his eyes, Whate'er he sees me do, he tries. Like me he says he's going to be; The little chap who follows me. He thinks that I'm so very fine, Believes in every word of mine. The base in me he must not see; The little chap who follows me. I must remember as I go Through summer's sun and winter's snow, I'm building for the years to be; The little chap who follows me. ****** As they say, it is easy to be a Father, but hard to be a Dad... I say it is both. Gets? Happy Father's / Dad's Day! << |
