And on the First Day... San Francisco High on a hill, it calls to me. To be where little cable cars Climb halfway to the stars! The morning fog may chill the air I don't care! " ~Tony Bennett / Frank Sinatra Full day. Started with breakfast at history-filled Sears' Fine Food, world famous for their Swedish little pancakes. After a short wait for 10 minutes in line, we were ready to share 9 heavenly masterpieces. Then off to riding my first cable car up and down Powell Street. It was a fun ride til the cab lost grip of the cable and had to be pushed up. What an experience! My first ride and then this slight hiccup. Haha! After a repair and a good push up, we went down Lombard Street. Wow! all I thought Tondo was the crookedest street or the one near Mendiola - where other deals happen, but Lombard street really proved to be crooked. I tried running downhill but was afraid to roll down (hehe, I know I should lose this ricebelly soon) We accidentally went to San Francisco Art Institute to have a good view of Alcatraz and TansAmerica and the Coit Tower from a different vantage point. And yes, this would serendipitously be the venue of my seminar with National Geographic the next day. The afternoon was spent at touristic traps Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39 and then a cruise down to Sausalito. Sausalito, reminiscent of Bellagio and other Lake Como Italian tiny villages, was perfect place to just spend quiet time for a couple of hours and not to be frazzled by deadlines and reports. Yes, this was THE life, to be not in a hurry... ****** Slideshow of Day 2 - Morning. << |
