On Golden Gate, a Notebook and Jacko Click left side of photo to go to previous entry/ Click the right half of photo to go to the next
Sunday Vangie Sunday, Part 2 San Francisco Where was the first time you saw the Golden Gate bridge? Siempre, your answer should be San Francisco. Me? No. My first time was on a notebook from 30 years ago. I mentioned this to Vangie and Mitzi and both of them recalled that funny looking notebook with a red band on the spine and a oft-brown colored cover. There are things from the past that make me remember fondly being young. What about those erasers with green tips and the alphabet on the square side? orion bendable rulers, dymo labels for names, double sided pencil boxes with magnets to hold and close them with and yes, graphics paper. Hey the list goes on: TV antennas, CB radios, khaki trousers, Gregg shoes, gupit binata, Bic and Kilometrico pens, and of course, safety pinned-id cards. Red and Blue striped socks, steno notebooks, stars on 45, 45 rpm records, aluminum lunch boxes, timex or casio calculator watch, scissors that don't cut, sharpeners that break your lead pencils instead of sharpening them, and Reynolds ballpen which you twirl back and forth like a baton. So why the nostalgia? It's Holy week, and I remember this week fondly as a week that our family holds dearly. Back in the 70s, we will all line up to do our confessions on Thursdays, try to pray in 7 churches for visita Iglesia after the washing of the feet and then the only odd tradition was trying not to watch TV or listen to the radio from 12 midnight to Easter Sunday. And yes, one more thing, not to smile nor take a bath on Good Friday. *********** The Golden Gate bridge is such a sweet place to visit...can you see the right image on the 2nd postcard above? Sweet di ba? It baffles me why on the other hand it is the bridge which has been most popular for people to commit suicide. ************ Black is the new Black...and isn't it weird why 70s icon Michael Jackson is back in the news and people still love him. ************ Two things that are related with this "back to 70's" post and our trip to SFO. In the 70s, I saw for the first time the Golden Gate Bridge on a notebook and now in 2009, I just saw the real Golden Gate Bridge and in the same weekend from the same city, bought a new Mac Notebook. La lang. natuwa lang ako...Weird? yeah Michael Jackson-kind-of-weird. :) << |
