Memorial Day Weekend Upstate New York May 23 - the 143rd day of the year is such a memorable day for me. I associate it with a lot of good things including love abundant from High above. *********** Today is Towel Day. Towel Day is an annual celebration on the 25th of May, as a tribute to the late author Douglas Adams (1952-2001). On that day, fans around the universe proudly carry a towel in his honour. The commemoration was first held in 2001, two weeks after Adams' death on May 11, 2001. A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value. You can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapors; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a miniraft down the slow heavy River Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (such a mind-boggingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough. *********** Today is the US Memorial Day. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the civil war), it was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of any war or military action. *********** Today in Twitter (mine is jayplusa) Susan Boyle-now on to the Finals. Her performance wasn't as good as the first but better Very few celebrities can be admired more than their raw talent. Jason Mraz' openness and humility is unquestionably admirable. Here is one entry of his blog. Read it with an open mind and heart. Today is another day to enjoy, another day to know and serve the Lord, and another day to finish some more things for the house...TV can wait til tonight - Lakers and Nuggets await. << |
