Thankful Thankful Anna Marie, a 10-year old resident of a nearby depressed area had one dream - that of owning a big stuffed toy. A simple yet unreachable dream what with the escalating prices. The moment she received it, she embraced it, danced around, showed to other children with innocent pride her new stuffed toy she got for P 20 pesos ($0.36). This was from our first foray to a rewarding experience - hosting a garage sale. Last weekend was a tiring one for my wife and I when we decided to let go, sans sentimentality, most of our old attachments. Our objective was to share things we feel will bring out more joy to more people (much more than our own random need for these things). Yes, they were "previously loved" but our attachments to them were rekindled upon seeing happy buyers calling them their own for nothing more than P 100 pesos ($1.80). We were able to extend the same love to them, explaining how to play this particular toy, which songs are great in this CD or how to wash this type of clothing. Seeing new owners enjoy things we once enjoyed was such a soul-enriching sight. I was so thankful we did it. |
