Feeling Small 26 Things: Small Things I collect Ferrari model cars. It's the next best thing to owning them. (Paranaque City, July 2003) Others submissions to the 26 Things Photo Scavenger Hunt: Money, Weather, Time, Construction and Light There are a few things in this world that can make me feel small. For one, the fact that Asian men are really small in built and size (that is length and width, and don't give me that silly look). This was more apparent queueing in lines in Europe and in the US (or the very few times that I experienced lining up); or in airports' immigration counter checks. In both instances, I feel small in physique but more so, the way they have this perception of Filipinos. Normally a cursory check would have been done, but these days it takes a while and a half to inspect my papers. Last Sunday's event is no different. Now I feel much smaller. How can you explain what happened to a friend from abroad? Of course the only way to do it is to tell them that it was a blessing that there was no bloodshed. That - they might buy, maybe not. For them, "it shouldn't have happened in the first place". For which I totally agree. |
