The Former Powerplant The Powerplant Rockwell, Makati City, February 2004 Powerplant to the uninitiated is really a former Meralco powerplant. No kidding. I used to remember going to EDSA via Estrella from JP Rizal and seeing these humongous posts and electric wires and cables and I thought to myself how Bel Air residents would be in shock (pun intended) in case the wires get tripped or would have problems after decades of use. Just the same, Powerplant and its lights are just a remembrance of how a once radiation-filled area can be turned into a shopping haven, a venue for luxurious condominium living and a center for education to future lawyers of the country. In the future, it will not be surprising to hear law students while seated listening to their dean's lectures, getting their comeuppance in their own electric chairs. My hair stands in that Stephen King-like thought. |
