Jake Calling Christmas Holidays 2006 One of the most intense and long drawn battles during the last holidays was Zia and Jake fighting over a toy cellphone. Ha! Akala niyo kung ano... It was so intense that I imagined seeing Linnor and May going at it, minus 25 years ago :P ******* I was amazed at how things have simmered down with regard to Christmas text messaging. I still had my 7 year old Globe number, but apparently only received 1 Christmas-related text message, and it was from my Mama. Have the Pinoy lost the zing in forwarding heart-warming Christmas text messages? My mom was actually asking what time we will be arriving from the mall in time for mass :) ******* Apparently no one cares about cellphones anymore in the Philippines. One, they probably felt the marketing of the telecoms was eating into their annual budget with one too many new models coming out every quarter. Next is that people nowadays are wiser when it comes to cellphone usage. Some maximize this promo of Globe that you can call up on a per second basis. Maybe that's why people back home speak so fast. They've been trained by Globe to do so. There's also this promo from PLDT that you can have unlimited minutes for long distance calls for a mere flat rate per month. There’s also the style of most that instead of calling, they will just send a "missed call" for so many things, e.g. to let you know that they need something from you, that you need to go home now, that you need to return my call, or maybe to greet you a "Merry Christmas". Whatever the code is – 3 missed calls means, "Please call me". 12 missed calls means "Merry Christmas", or whatever morse code they employ. Then I checked my phone, I got 10 missed calls only. All coming from Mama, and when we saw each other I asked what she wanted to tell me since I was in the noisy mall and didn't hear the ring. She just said, "wala, I just wanted to know what time you will be arriving from the mall for Christmas mass." and yes, on a slightly unrelated note, for the first time, I got a cellphone virus too. << |
