Sea of Faces - try to find me Work Work Work Giving Back of Time, Talent and Treasure Introducing A Friend Colorful Houses - the GK Way GK Youth Build 2007 : The Marinduque Build Gasan, Marinduque Last December 2006, Marinduque was in shambles. The island was devastated by twin typhoons, with the latter one typhoon Reming, being the strongest in most recent years. Coconut and banana trees were uprooted and families lost their shelter. Seven months after, you wouldn't even see any traces of people feeling down-trodden or sulking after losing the roofs on top of their heads, literally. Marinduque, in 3 weeks, had 10 houses awarded to its poorest of the poor a couple of days after Christmas. In April 2007, it was the host for the GK Bayani Challenge when 15 additional houses were built from ground up in 5 days by 15 teams. ********* Our life-changing immersion in Gasan for 5 days, included time spent with the family beneficiaries, the kids and being able to share our time, talent and treasure. It also included discovery of known secrets of the heart-shaped island, spelunking, trekking and non-stop fresh food meals! Ahhh, we can only say, in December 2006, paradise was lost, but most recently, with Marinduque, slowly inching back to form, "Paradise regained!" << |
