I was getting accustomed to it to the consternation of my sister, Linnor, who only had a 16 month-reign. 10 years was such a long time to have been the "bunso" of the family. For that amount of time, Linnor and I were practically doing the same things, even had the same apple cut for sometime (ugh), sharing the same playmates, running around the community and lording it over the credit cards of Mama in Everlast and SM/BDO.

Until, May 6, 1979.

But no one knew how we both felt prior to the announcement of Mama's pregnancy. She had heart problems, and at almost 41 years old wasn't perfectly in the pink of health for a baby. Sorry, wrong guess. The condition of Mama was ~~not~~ because of Ate Linnor and mine's own doing. I remember we were "so good" then that we can count the number of times we received a form of corporal punishment unheard of in North America. Walis tingting and belt buckles and all :) We are, and most of you there too, are living proofs that corporal punishment works and Super Nanny can take a backseat when it really is needed.

So we were naturally concerned and at the same time - happy.

So on the day we visited the old Medical City in Mandaluyong on the morning of May 6, 1979, our first question was whether Mama was safe during the whole process. The newborn baby? - from day 1, she has and always been able to fend for herself, sometimes the wrong way. But she learns fast. After burning her wrist, or cracking her lower lip open from a bike accident she knew that flame is hot and that biking with yaya is not safe.

She was resilient and was able to catch up well despite the age gap. Oh she has her faults and she got whacked well too and her curly hair has seen a lot of fingers throughout the years.

Despite all this, she and I were always on the same page. I was considered to be the middle child - the most balanced of them all, the cushion (not because of my size as I was only 125 lbs when I got married) and shock absorber all rolled into one.

Fast forward, May is now a mom to Zia, who was named after Zita May who was named after Mama.

On May 6, 1979, we were just so happy they both survived and God blessed us with our baby ever since.
