Bitter Rivals Click left side of photo to go to previous entry/ Click the right half of photo to go to the next
Rainbow After the Rain Mississauga, Ontario G. K. Chesterton Toyota- Crispa. Lakers vs. Celtics. Yale vs. Harvard. Nora vs. Vilma. Red Sox vs. Yankees. Obviously they're all bitter rivals but none of these have withstood time as Good and Evil. Where are you siding with? ********* The Ateneo and La Salle were never really Basketball rivals. It was Ateneo and San Beda. The Ateneo still holds the record of most NCAA crowns at 14 despite being out of NCAA for the last 20+ years, while San Beda has 13. When I was in San Beda, I saw on TV the very first closed-door NCAA Basketball championships with Red Lion players then Frankie Lim, Chito Loyzaga, JB Yango and Chuck Barreiro. Ateneo had Padim Israel, Steve Watson, Joy Carpio and Joel Banal. I could remember all of them despite being Grade 2 because our PE teachers then wanted us to recall that San Beda was able to stop the Ateneo from winning a three-peat in the NCAA. The Ateneo and La Salle Basketball rivalry is a marketing gimmick. Where in the world will you buy a Php 250 ticket for Php 5,000? Only in a Blue-vs.-Green affair. So watch out this coming Sunday, the so-called rivalry is on hand and this time, it just like the colors of the rainbow - it will be Green over Blue - AGAIN! I'll be cheering from out here...while watching the La Salle PEP Squad: ************ I breakdown for any good game. This is an example. I was in a clinic that night and I had to cover my mouth several times so as not to make a big yalp! Normally I will throw things at the TV, but the TV set here was strategically placed on top :) Watch the Stop Motion series of 80 images capturing the last 3 innings of last Saturday night's Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox game. Up 5-2, the Red Sucks, err, the Red Sox crept on the Jays to win the game. Drats - foiled again. << |
