 Braving the Heat on the Stands  Message So Clear and In Black and White GK Walk 2007 Earl Bales Park, North York, Toronto  Thank you! Last year I made close to $105 from online donations to support the noble cause of helping the projects of Gawad Kalinga and for increased awareness of their projects directed to help the poorest of the poor especially in the Philippines. This year, I stand to generate more than that with the outpouring of sentiments, emails and comments. As a whole, with all the walkers from Greater Toronto, the GK Walk proceeds as of yesterday can put up a village for the poorest of the poor for at least 50 families! All from the support of people like you to the GK Walk. Next year, I will try harder for online donations to reach $1,800 which is equivalent to one house for a poor family. (Here is a sample of a duplex house for 2 families in Marinduque.) I'll be counting on your help again! Salamat muli sa inyong tulong! ******* Speaking of houses, help and generosity... Today, 3 years ago, there was a family who opened their doors to a couple who didn't have anyone to live with, no known relatives, friends or any provision to stay at least 1 week. Their generosity was so great, that the request to have a couple on their first time in Toronto, with 2 Balikbayan boxes, and 2 large suitcases, to be picked up from the airport at 12 midnight was accepted unconditionally. Who would do something like that for a friend? But a real friend indeed! We stayed for more than 2 weeks, and stayed another week (as taong bahay when the family went to Florida for Fall vacation) and they never minded. Today, if not for the many trips abroad for business, vacation and volunteer work, we could have been Canadian citizens as we have already maxed out 1,095 days already. 1,095 days ago - we asked for help and their house was opened wholeheartedly - to JO - and your family, salamat.
