Mix Mix After High Park, Toronto, Ontario Coming from shooting the Cherry Blossoms, with the heat and parched throat, I was thirsty for something cold and planning to bring home for Mitzi as 'pasalubong', I thought of getting Ben and Jerry's "If I Had a 1,000,000 Flavors" ice cream tub. This new flavor, endorsed by the Barenaked Ladies, shares its name with the band's famous track of the same title was unfortunately not available last Friday. Sayang! Guess what, as some may say, "if the Lord closes doors, He opens a lot of windows". What happened was a lot better. With my Starbucks re-usable plastic cup (Yes, am getting green lately) I passed by our favorite Pinoy take out counter, aptly named Halo Halo World Cafe :) Voila....Starbucks Halo Halo! ******** ME - A Swine With A Flu This week was less of that halo halo since I was almost down and out from another round of stomach flu. :) A Pinoy party, and a weak tummy made me feel like a "swine with a flu". Next time I should know better. *********** I was anticipating for the week to have a lot of things ending :). One of the most anticipated was the end of the Houston Rockets' series with my fave LA Lakers. Unfortunately that didn't happen. So I settled in looking forward to the season finale of "Lost". For the uninitiated, it's time to catch up and watch it from the pilot episode, from 5 years ago to last Wednesday's finale. That's almost 90 hrs lang naman for you to catch up. Obviously as I rave about it so much, it should be worth it. Game? Here's the link. Some episodes in HD, obviously in 2004, wala pang HD. *********** I have a lot of thoughts on the news on Gawad Kalinga, a program borne out of and a Social Ministry arm of Couples for Christ but only until last May 1. Yes, the headlines that say "Couples for Christ gives up control of Gawad Kalinga" are true. I feel that the very reason why I joined Couples for Christ was partly because of their establishment of GK. We were advocates of Gawad Kalinga even ahead of being part of the covenanted community. Founders of GK Youth Build and now doing work for an advocacy for the eradication of poverty in the Philippines through a volunteer work, No More Slums, we knew if the fruit is this good, the tree should be good as well, if not, better! We realized early on that CFC and GK are perfect together, but the two also function better to help more people - separately. I remember the story of Martha and Mary in both functions but maybe digressing. Having seen how the two can really function better as separate entities, I worked hard in both and never really made it a reason for me to become a better Christian by doing social work. It is a natural tendency that when you want to share your love to more people, it transcends creed, race, gender, age or color. You are in it because of your natural love for the poor. Besides the best person who taught us to love the poor is Christ himself. To follow His example - to love the poor - is one of my expressions of Christian faith. Some may be sentimental. I may be one of them, but Jeremiah 29:11 tells us how to deal with it. Let's continue to help the poor and do it, NOT on our own strength, not for our greater glory but for the glory of God. Starbucks Halo Halo for everyone please! While having that let's be inspired by one of the speeches of CFC member, GK advocate Tony Meloto. Click here. << |
